Tips for Our Clients :: Wedding Day Timeline

To continue our client tips posts, we wanted to focus a little bit on the ideal wedding day timeline. Planning out your wedding day can be a bit crazy, but really, when you break it all down and have an actual schedule, everything runs so much smoother. We have two different timelines we’d like to share: one with a first look and the other for the couple who’d like to wait until the ceremony to see each other.

We think sharing this photo-friendly timeline with your planner or event coordinator will help to ensure everyone is on the same page when it comes to your wedding day!

Both of these schedules have the ceremony starting at 4:00 PM (the most common time our weddings start), and 8 hours of coverage (the minimum for all of our packages).

Wedding with First Look

1:00 - Photographers arrive: We split off (Ravyn with the girls & Jim with the guys) and shoot photos of everyone finishing getting ready for the day.

1:45 - Bride & groom get dressed: Bride should be diving into her dress … Groom should be putting the final touches on his tux. Wedding party should be dressed.

2:00 - First look: Bride & groom have a few minutes alone and then we start shooting the photos. This is your chance to totally rock it. We love shooting photos right after a groom sees his bride for the first time.

2:30 - Wedding party photos: We have so much fun shooting the wedding party photos. It’s especially awesome with a fun wedding party who wants to have a great time!

3:00 - Family formals: We rock through our family formals super fast. Preparing your families ahead of time will make this go even faster.

3:15 - All formal photos are done: Bride is tucked away until ceremony. Jim & Ravyn will start taking detail shots and candid photos before the ceremony begins.

4:00 - Ceremony Begins

4:30 - Ceremony Ends: We have a location we’ve selected to sneak away with the bride & groom for a few minutes right after the ceremony. This is when we capture that  “OH MY GOODNESS, WE JUST GOT MARRIED” feeling that our couples have right after the ceremony.

4:30 - Relaxed portraits: This is a great time for more relaxed portraits with the bride & groom and the wedding party. Some couple choose to continue photos until their cocktail hour is half over and then greet their guests.

5:00 - Cocktail hour begins: This is when Jim & Ravyn take a few minutes to get a slideshow together for the reception as well as take some candid shots with you and your guests.

6:00 - Reception begins

9:00 - We give you hugs and best wishes: Some couples have us stay late into the night … so we can definitely hang around and keep shooting, but typically, we start packing up about 3 hours into the reception.

Wedding with no First Look

1:00 - Photographers arrive: We split off (Ravyn with the girls & Jim with the guys) and shoot photos of everyone finishing getting ready for the day.

1:45 - Bride & groom get dressed: Bride should be diving into her dress … Groom should be putting the final touches on his tux. Wedding party should be dressed.

2:00 - Start bride & bridesmaids photos: We’ll be sure the groom is tucked away so we can start photos with the bride and her bridesmaids.

2:30 - Start groom & groomsmen photos: After the bride is in her bridal suite, we’ll get to hang out with the guys for a bit.

3:00 - Bride & groom relax before ceremony: Jim & Ravyn will start taking detail shots and candid photos before the ceremony begins.

4:45 - Family formals: We are really good at getting through the family formals pretty quickly, meaning they can go on to the reception an enjoy themselves!

5:15 - Photos of bride & groom: This is your time to feel fabulous! We’ll hang out with you, with the encouragement of your wedding party, and capture that new husband + wife glow.

5:45 - Start full wedding party photos: So much fun!

6:15 - Reception begins

9:00 - We give you hugs and best wishes: Some couples have us stay late into the night … so we can definitely hang around and keep shooting, but typically, we start packing up about 3 hours into the reception.

These schedules are by no means set in stone. This is just our suggestion for what we’ve seen work best for a wedding day. Each couple is completely different, and things always come up on the wedding day. We always discuss our exact schedule with our couples before their wedding day to be sure it works best for them.
